Bhubaneswar, June 10: A 34-year-old system administrator of a well-known software company went missing on Monday.
Police have begun investigation following a complaint by the father of missing Manab Pattnaik at the Infocity police station.
Kambupani Pattnaik, the father of Manab, said that the family received a call from his Patia office in the afternoon that his son had not reported for duty.
“He left the house at the usual time but without his motorcycle. He said that one of his friends would drop him at the office. But when I received the call from his office, I went looking for him even at a hospital in Patia thinking that might have met with an accident, but could not find him anywhere,” said Kambumani, a retired income tax official, who is a native of Titilagrh in Balangir. The family, however, now lives in Prasanti Vihar here. Manab, a BTech in computer science, had joined the TCS on May 28. Prior to his posting in the company, he used to work as system administrator at a public school for three years.
“He never complained about any work related stress. So we are clueless about the whole thing,” said Kambumani. The father, however, ruled out kidnapping saying that Manab had no enemies.
However, the police suspect that Manab was deliberately keeping his family in the dark about his whereabouts as he had left his mobile phone back home in switched off mode.
“He was last seen at a hotel near Patia where he had his breakfast. We have obtained the CCTV footage of the hotel and are trying to trace him,” said a senior police officer.
Earlier, in a similar incident, Ibrahim Sharief, the senior officer of Indian Bureau of Mines had gone missing for nearly four months after leaving home on November 25 last year.
The 34-year-old mining engineer returned to the city on March 28 this year. The police later said that Sharief had left the city because of work related stress. The police are also trying to find out familiar reason behind his disappearance. Manab had married in February 2010 and has a 16-month-old daughter.
