Kendrapara: Police have arrested a 28-year-old man on charge of raping his aunt.
The accused, a native of Sadanandpur village in Nikirai police limits, has confessed to the crime. The police said he had committed the offence in an inebriated state last week.
The accused had accompanied the rape survivor to attend a marriage function at Nishintakoili village in Cuttack district. Finding her alone there, he had raped her, who is married and mother of two children.
The police swung into action following the complaint lodged by the woman. The accused, who had fled the village, was traced through the electronic tracking of his mobile phone and arrested from Kendrapara township.
In another offence, a 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The accused, Jogesh Patra, 21, a native of Baulapada village in Mahakalpada police limits, was arrested from the Jaraka police station area in Jajpur district. He lured the survivor of providing job in a private company on April 14. Later, he raped her while holding the girl captive in Jaraka. Both the accused and the survivor have been medically examined, the police said.
Scrap seized
Keonjhar police have seized a truck carrying stolen scrap materials in the Joda industrial township area.
Three persons were arrested. The arrested persons are the members of a larger racket thriving on smuggling of scrap materials.
The stolen scarp materials were being smuggled to sponge iron factories in Jajpur district and the neighbouring state of Jharkhand, police said.
