2 held for gang-rape, one still at large

Police today arrested the conductor and helper of a private bus for gang-raping a 30-year-old woman at Bansada yesterday night.

Bhadrak, July 8: Police today arrested the conductor and helper of a private bus for gang-raping a 30-year-old woman at Bansada yesterday night.

The conductor has been identified as Rajkishor Nayak, 37, while the bus helper is Buddhadeb Mandal, 22. Kanha Maity, 28, the third accused, is at large.

The victim lodged a complaint today, following which the arrests were made.

The incident took place when the woman was on her way to her maternal uncle's house to see the rath yatra. She boarded a Chandinipal-bound bus for Dosinga from Nandapatna.

When all the passengers got off at Dosinga stop, the trio allegedly took her to a secluded place and raped her in turns. They also robbed her off her gold ornaments.

This morning, the victim reached her native place in Balasore and told her husband about her ordeal following which the complaint was made.

Officer in charge of Bansada police station Paresh Mohanty said a case was registered and they were probing the incident.

Sub-divisional police officer Tarun Das said: "The medical examinations of the victim and accused are being carried out."

Harass notice

Police today served notices to a 26-year-old woman and her boyfriend in Bhubaneswar for allegedly clicking indecent photographs of her roommate and circulating it to the boy on WhatsApp.

On Thursday, a case was registered following a complaint lodged by a woman working with a private hospital. Police said that they had detained the accused and her boyfriend yesterday and scanned their mobile phones.

"We have not found any indecent photographs. However, we will take the help of cyber experts to verify the allegations," said a police officer.
