Rourkela: Police have detained two persons, one of them a juvenile, on the charge of raping a woman.
The 23-year-old survivor lodged a complaint at Sector-7 police station on Sunday evening when the alleged incident took place in an open field in the city.
According to the complaint, it was around eight in the evening, when she went to buy some detergent powder for her home.
When the woman, a resident of Bin bustee, did not return for well over two hours, her mother-in-law called up her son over phone and informed that she had been missing.
On hearing this, the woman's husband, along with some of his friends, started looking for her in the locality but could not find her there.
When they were going to lodge a missing complaint at the police station, they found on the way the juvenile, around 15-year-old, standing in a suspicious manner.
They chased and caught hold of him.
After little heckling, he confessed to the crime and took them to the open field. There they heard someone crying for help.
After a brief search, they discovered the woman and a man, who had been named by the juvenile as involved in the crime, nearby and caught him.
On being confronted, the 20-year-old youth, Krishna Tirky, confessed his involvement in the crime.
Later, both the accused were handed over to the police.
The survivor was shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital for treatment, where her condition was stated to be stable.
Inspector in charge of Sector-7 police station Surya Narayan Das said: "We have taken the two into custody and are investigating the case. The juvenile is from Jharkhand and was here on a personal visit. We are also looking for the involvement of other persons in the crime."
Bootlegger held
Basta police arrested a bootlegger and seized huge quantity of liquor in a raid. The accused identified as Maheswar Das has been produced before the court.
