Guwahati, Aug. 13: A hundred artistes of Assam will lend their voice to highlight the present and the past of the state in a song that lasts all of three-and-a-half hours and will probably be the longest one of the world.
The longest officially released song so far is In The Garden sung by PC III label Pipe Choir (USA), which lasts three hours, one minute and 50 seconds. The song was released through the digital platforms iTunes, Amazon.com, Spotify and Google Play on August 16, 2015.
The project of the song, Aami Gao Axomir Gaan (We sing the song of Assam), was officially launched at a city hotel today.
The song is a brainchild of Apuraj Borooah, who in 2011 had scripted his name in the Guinness World Records for the longest scratch art piece on bromide paper. The piece of art that had brought him laurels was on 20.3 metres by 1.04 metres bromide paper containing 40 pictures of world folk dances.
"All natural resources - scenic beauty, history, rivers and hills - each and every person who has made some contribution to the state and the nation will be highlighted through the song. There are 100 subjects in it. Established singers like Sudakshina Sarma and J.P. Das to those in the new generation will lend their voices to it," said Borooah, who has written the song.
The song will be recorded in a Guwahati-based studio and the music has been composed by Rupam Talukdar.
Borooah said they will also make a video with English subtitles.
"It is not very important whether people will listen to the song or not. The way the Ramayan and the Mahabharat have captured a period of time, the song aims to capture the past and present of the state," he said.
Borooah said the recording will take place next month after he comes back from an international art festival in Thailand in the first week.
However, he said he had not contacted Guinness World Records so far.
Veteran singer J.P. Das said, "The song is like a history of the society and culture of the state in tunes and lyrics. His intention is good. And singing a three-and-a-half hour song in 12 notes is itself an achievement."
Popular singer Sangeeta Kakoty, who will sing the part of the song on Jnanpeeth awardee Mamoni Roisom Goswami, said the best part about the song is that it will bring together 100 singers and capture their voices. "Besides, it will be a kind of recognition for the singers," she said.
Borooah is also involved in another project of bringing out short biographies of 250 important people of the state.
