Guwahati, March 5: HMV RS Academy, Delhi, and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) XI registered contrasting wins in their respective league matches of the 2nd Airtel Santosh Kumar Roy invitation Twenty20 cricket tournament organised by Sports Club of Assam at Nehru Stadium here.
While RS Academy posted a convincing five-wicket victory over defending champions Food Corporation of India (FCI), Delhi, in the morning match, CAB XI edged past Gauhati Town Club by six runs.
In the morning match, put to bat first, FCI were restricted to a modest total of 148 for eight and the RS Academy boys reached 150 for the loss of five wickets in 18.1 overs.
Ankit Rawat (35), Ajmer Singh (34) and Akash Malhotra (25) were the notable scorers for FCI while Sumit Poria of RS Academy notched up three wickets conceding 21 runs.
In reply, Mohd Ahmed topscored for RS Academy with 36 and Amandeep Sonkar contributed a quickfire innings of 33 runs to be eventually named Man of the Match. Besides, Vaivab Despandey remained not out on 30. Pankaj Thakur of FCI captured two wickets for 37 runs.
In the other match, CAB XI elected to bat first and were all out off for 130 in 19.1 overs. Chasing the modest target, tailender Pankaj Saikia’s unbeaten 19, which comprised two sixes and four off the last over, went in vain as the GTC side fell six runs short to be restricted to 124 for the loss of nine wickets in the 20 overs.
Sudip Chatterjee topscored for CAB with 39 runs slamming three boundaries while Avirup Gupta and Sandipan Das contributed 13 and 12 runs respectively. Besides, 37 runs came in as extras. Ranjit Mali of GTC picked up three wickets conceding 34 runs and Pankaj Saikia and Binoy Kalita scalped two wickets each for 19 runs each respectively.
For GTC, apart from Saikia, Shiv Shankar Roy scored 21, Swarupam Purkayastha contributed 20 and Ranjit Mali made 16 runs. Subhadeep Kumar Sinha of CAB scalped three wickets giving away 14 to clinch the match away from the home side and was later on named Man of the Match. Besides, Choto Sarkar claimed two wickets for 32 runs.
Tomorrow, Bud Cricket Club will take on FCI and CAB clash with Air India.
