Guwahati, March 7: Akash Hyundai and Vintage XI won their matches in the 1st Raishmodi Nunisa North East Twenty20 Cricket Championship at the Latasil Ground today.
Akash Hyundai defeated Latasil Cricket Coaching School by 20 runs and Vintage XI edged past Evergreen Club, Goalpara, by four runs.
Latasil won the toss and decided to bowl, a decision that backfired when the Akash Hyundai team got off to a rollicking start and compiled 117 for eight in the stipulated 20 overs. Latasil later collapsed for 97 in 19.5 overs.
Dilwar Khan topscored for Akash Hyundai with an unbeaten 33 off 23 deliveries. Munna Narzary contributed 23.
Himangshu Das of Latasil picked up four for 21 and Bharadwaj Bhargav took three for seven.
Binay Rout’s 18 was the highest score for Latasil. Rupak Roy of Akash Hyundai took three wickets for 25 runs while Simanta Barman and Dilwar Khan took two each.
In the other match, Vintage XI elected to bat first and scored 145 for eight in 20 overs. The Goalpara men were going strong, but a middle-order collapse put the brakes on their scoring rate and they eventually fell four runs short of the target.
Ramesh Damani’s 36 off 22 balls was the top score for Vintage XI. Abhijit Das contributed 30 to the score and Vardhaman Jain added another 26. Manoj Das of Evergreen picked up two wickets, giving away 29 runs.
Rupraj Talukdar with 41 runs and Kamal Singha with 33 were the architects of the Goalpara innings. Kishan Agarwal and Abhijit Das of Vintage XI took two wickets each. giving away 17 and 30 runs respectively.
In the two matches tomorrow, Ankurjyoti Club will face Vintage XI and City Cricket Coaching Centre will take on River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre.
