Imphal, March 8: Manipur University vice-chancellor Ch. Amuba Singh said the university will introduce a sports course from the next academic session to give priority to games and sports in the state.
Singh spoke to the victorious Manipur contingent of the 33rd National Games at a reception in the university’s centenary hall today. He said, “We have already planned to introduce a five-year integrated sports course and construction of a building for this purpose is under way”.
He also conveyed the chancellor’s congratulatory message to the 456 sportpersons, who were felicitated on the occasion.
Manipur Olympic Association chief E. Binoykumar said on a lighter note that everything was fine in Guwahati except for the “weather” and “traffic”. He added that Manipur Governor S.S. Sidhu had expressed willingness to come to Guwahati to receive the Raja Bhalendra Trophy if Manipur were the champion.
Raj Bhavan sent a congratulatory message for the Manipur team coming second to Services.
Weightlifting referee: Assam Weightlifting Association general secretary Bhabajyoti Goswami has cleared the category I National Referee examination held in Chennai on March 2 and 3. With this, he has become the first national referee from Assam in the sport.
