Kohima, Aug. 10: Chancellor of The Global Open University, Nagaland, T.N. Mannen, said the university was not involved in the fake certificate issue that came to the fore in April after Punjab police busted a racket, allegedly being run by the varsity.
Mannen said the varsity would regain its lost reputation once investigation into the case was over.
Since April, four persons were arrested from Bengal and Punjab in this case, while two are absconding.
"Punjab police's claim that the racket was being run from our university is baseless. The fake certificates and documents were being issued by some people in Calcutta and Patiala. They generated duplicate copies of the university's admission data," he said.
The chancellor said an FIR had been lodged against a Patiala-based agency, Lotus Education Society, for allegedly forging the varsity's logo, its letterhead templates and the like.
He added that Sandeep Bhari and Vivek Gupta, who were running Lotus Education Society, were arrested from Patiala, while owner of another agency, Bhai Gurdas Education Centre, Vineet Goel, was held from Mansa. Mannen said the issue had earned a bad name for the university.
The Global Open University is a private university, established under the Nagaland Act of 2006 (Act No. 3). It was given a provisional recognition in 2008-2009 by the Distance Education Council. The varsity was recognised by the University Grand Commission in 2010. "We offer professional and non-professional courses in undergraduate and postgraduate level," Mannen added.
The university also imparts BSc courses in hotel management and catering technology and BBA in fashion technology at its Dimapur and Kohima campuses.
Mannen said the university would continue to provide best resources of higher education and no stone would be left unturned to bring the criminals to book. He said university was equipped with excellent study materials and the Northeast should have more universities like The Global Open University.
Students, passed out from the varsity, had been serving in best hotels and institutions in the country, he added.
