
Guwahati, March 3: Three students opted out of the placement process at IIM Shillong this year.
The 2015-17 placement report of the B-school, released today, revealed the average CTC was Rs 14.16 lakh per annum while it was Rs 14 lakh last year. The best offer was Rs 24 lakh this year while the best offer last year was Rs 25 lakh. "The economy is not doing well, which explains the situation," IIM Shillong director Amitabh De told The Telegraph.
The three students who opted out are Shruti Jain, Avijeet Vijay and Nishigandha Yashwant Kerure. While Shruti is joining her family business in Delhi, the other two are going for higher studies.
Sharad Nath Bhattacharya, chairperson, student affairs, placement and public relations committee, said IIM Shillong has again fortified its position as a premier B-school with the successful completion of the placement for the class of 2017. The growing list of prominent recruiters and the continued faith of regular recruiters is testimony to the ever-increasing confidence of the industry in the talent pool of the institute, he said. The highest CTC was offered in the strategy and general management domain by Mahindra Group.
Sales and marketing continued to be the most sought after jobs with 30 per cent of the total offers made. Multiple offers were made by prominent recruiters like Dabur, Idea Cellular, Kohler, Piramal Enterprises, Tata Steel, Titan, GSK Pharmaceuticals, Coffee Day Beverages and Tata Motors.
The season recorded an increase in the number of finance roles in companies like Yes Bank, ICICI Bank, RBL Bank, JP Morgan Chase, HSBC, Fidelity Management Research, Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance, SBI and SBI Capital Markets which offered jobs to 25 per cent of the candidates.
Consulting emerged as the highest paying domain, with candidates grossing an average CTC of Rs 17 lakh per annum for offers from Deloitte, Cognizant Business Consulting and Stellium Consulting, among others.
Strategy and general management roles were offered to nine per cent of the batch by regular and first-time recruiters. Prominent companies like Mahindra GMC and Tata Steel offered jobs in corporate strategy teams highlighting the quality of students. Lava International emerged as the largest recruiter in this domain by making multiple offers for its leadership programme.
Roles in operations were offered to 10 per cent of the batch by e-commerce, telecommunication, banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) and retail companies. Brands like Idea, L&T and Reliance Jio participated for the first time this year offering operations role while e-commerce companies like Amazon and Droom emerged as the largest recruiters.
