Guwahati, April 8: Gauhati Town Club crushed River Rine Club by 222 runs in a match of the 1st Aruna Das and Raishmodi Nunisa Santipur Challenge Trophy cricket tournament at Nehru Stadium here today.
GTC won the toss and elected to bat. The team piled up 299 for eight in 40 overs. With Zakaria Zuffri hammering 82 runs with the bat. Palash Jyoti Das made a solid 57 and Amit Sinha struck a flamboyant 55.
Chandan Roy and Raj Hussain scalped two wickets each.
The River Rine men, in reply, were skittled out for a paltry 77 in 24.5 overs.
None of the River Rine batsmen could withstand the GTC attack and only Nausad Ali and Raj Hussain could reach double figures. Ali made 17, while Hussain scored 15 before surrendering their wickets.
For GTC Diptesh Saha emerged as the wrecker-in-chief scalping three wickets for just three runs. Palash Jyoti Das and Debabrata Roy picked up two wickets each for 11 and 21 runs respectively.
