Tinsukia defeat Bijni 5-2

Dibrugarh, Aug. 19: Striker Jogita Dhengra ruffled the net five times to help hosts Tinsukia tame Bijni 5-2 in a match of the 12th under-19 girls’ inter-district football tournament, organised by Doomdooma Sports Association, at Doomdooma Town Field in Tinsukia district today.

Striker Dina Daimary put Bijni ahead in the 12th minute. However, Jogita found the equaliser for Tinsukia in the 23rd minute and fashioned the lead for Tinsukia in the 28th minute.

Dina Daimary restored the parity again in the 31st minute. Jogita, however, struck for a hattrick finding the net in the 43rd, 47th and 61st minutes to make it 5-2.

U Gogoi soccer: Good Morning Club edged past Belogoni Tea Estate by a solitary goal in today’s match of the second Umesh Gogoi football tournament at Lahoal Rural Stadium in Dibrugarh district.

Assam win

Assam clinched a thumping six-wicket victory against Andhra Pradesh in the Buchi Babu invitation cricket tournament at Sri Ramachandra Medical College ground in Chennai today.

Chasing a target of 366 in 100 overs on the second day of the two-day match, Assam today rode a century by middle order batsman Gokul Sharma and an unbeaten 94 (11x4, 1x6) by Sibsankar Roy to reach 369 for four in 98.2 overs.

Put in to bat first, Andhra were all out for 365 yesterday.

Sharma scored 138 runs. He shared a fourth-wicket partnership of 178 runs with Roy. Opener Rishav Das also contributed a steady knock of 84 runs.

G.V.S. Prasad and Vision Panchal of Andhra took two wickets each.

Assam had earlier lost their first match against Tamil Nadu President’s XI.

They will play Bengal in the next group league match on August 21 and 22.
