They submitted a memorandum to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal through deputy commissioner Anant Lal Gyani, demanding enactment of a stringent law to curb rising crime graph against women.

The memorandum said crimes against women are on the rise in the state under the BJP-led government and the police and the administration have failed to arrest and punish rapists.

"We are demanding that the state government maintain zero tolerance towards all crimes committed against women," Begum said.

She added those guilty of heinous crimes such as rape should be awarded death sentence and the existing law should be amended to make it more stringent. She appeals for justice for victims by setting up fast-track courts.

The protesters also sought amendment to the Juvenile Justice Act so that no rape-accused, including a minor, can escape punishment
