ASEB share lead with Blues

Guwahati: Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) were awarded three points with the benefit of a 3-0 goal margin as Young Amateur Club opted out of their match against the defending champions in the super division football league on Tuesday. ASEB now share the lead with Assam Police Blues with 19 points. Wednesday’s first division league opener and the Gauhati Town Club-Maharana super division tie because of the statewide bandh. The matches will be played on Thursday.

Team leaves for Kerala

Guwahati: An eight-member Assam team left for Calicut, Kerala, on Tuesday to participate in the 31st women’s national B-division chess meet from August 20. The team comprises Fide-rated Purabi Sinha, Junmoni Gogoi, Rupumoni Duarah, Sajina Yasmin, Kumkum Buragohain, Alpana Gogoi and Aparna Gogoi.

Goalpara in quarters

Guwahati: Goalpara entered the quarterfinals and Udalguri made it to the pre-quarters in the 28th all-Assam sub-junior inter-district football championship at Barama in Nalbari district. Goalpara beat Bijni 4-2 and Udalguri blanked Jorhat 2-0 on Tuesday.

Magor beat Bokakhat

Guwahati: Williamson Magor Football Academy defeated Bokakhat TDSA 2-0 on Tuesday in the Subhas Bose memorial all-Assam invitational football meet at Behali tea estate ground in Sonitpur district. Salbagan Club of Kokrajhar will take on Assam Rifles on Wednesday.

Yonex Open begins today

Guwahati: The Guwahati Sports Association’s Yonex Open all-Assam ranking badminton championship will begin at 5.30 pm on Wednesday. Retired shuttler Pradip Chaliha will be the chief guest at the inaugural function at the Kanaklata Indoor Hall here.

Junior meet postponed

Guwahati: The Assam Football Association has deferred the 41st junior inter-district football championship, scheduled to be held in Dhakuakhana from August 18 to August 22, because blast in neighbouring Dhemaji on Sunday.

AFA lifts ban on Assam Rifles

Guwahati: The Assam Football Association (AFA) has lifted the ban on Assam Rifles Football Club of Tezpur.
