Imphal, Feb. 27: Singjamei Polo Club clinched the champion’s title of the 28th State-Level Polo Tournament through golden goal, defeating Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club (B) 4-3 at Imphal Polo Ground today.
Singjamei Polo Club’s P. Ojit Singh came up with two quick goals for the lead.
Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club stormed back in the second chukker, as S. Somorjit Singh scored the first goal and M. Jawan Singh fetched the equaliser.
The third chukker went goalless but in the fourth chukker S. Girimohan Singh provided the lead, striking Singjamei Polo Club’s third goal. Chingkhei Hunba came up again as Jawan Singh hit home the equaliser to take the score to 3-3.
An additional fifth chukker for the golden goal was put into play where Singjamei Polo Club’s S. Girimohan Singh struck the winning goal for the victory today.
Singjamei Polo Club won Rs 10,000 while Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club went home with Rs 5,000, along with the trophies.
The Best Disciplined title was given to Rupkumar Polo Club, Landaba was adjudged the Best Pony and S. Bimol of Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club was Best Player.
Referees’ course: The All-India Football Federation has selected Melody Phaljeneng Haokip for an AFC C Certificate course and Chim Chim Serto for an AFC Refereeing course in Sri Lanka in March.
National badminton: The 35th Senior (Veteran) National Badminton Championship will be held in Imphal from March 9-13. Altogether 206 players from 22 states will participate in the meet.
Memorial football: Tiddim Road Athletic Union defeated Citizen Welfare Club, Moreh by 2-0 goals in the 3rd Lamyanba Hijam Irawat Memorial Invitation Football Tournament at Eastern Shine Public Ground.
