Guwahati, Jan. 7: Santipur Athletic Club entered the semi-finals of the 16th Servo Challenge Trophy cricket tournament defeating Latasil Cricket Coaching Centre by 14 runs in the second quarter-final at Latasil ground here today.
Batting first after winning the toss, the Santipur boys were all out for 112 runs in 25.1 overs. In reply, LCCC were bundled out for 98 runs in 28.3 overs.
Bimal Goswami with a formidable innings of 34 runs, which included four boundaries, was the top scorer for Santipur.
Sirantan Das with a solid knock of 19 runs, with three glorious shots to the boundary line, was the only other batsman for Santipur Athletic Club to score in double figures.
Himangshu Das of Latasil Cricket Coaching Centre showcased a brilliant bowling performance and notched up three wickets for 23 runs. The other successful bowlers were Parikshit Bhuyan and Brajen Saikia, who shared two wickets each giving away 28 and 29 runs respectively.
For the Latasil outfit, Himangshu Das (13), Pusparna Sarma (12) and Mridul Chakraborty (11) were the only players who managed to make a mark with the bat. Chinmoy Choudhury also contributed an unbeaten innings of 11.
Bhaiti Ali of Santipur bowled a perfect line and length and claimed four wickets for 10 runs while Tauhid Ali Talukdar captured two wickets giving away 16 runs.
Bimal Goswami was adjudged the Man of the Match.
On Tuesday, City Cricket Coaching Centre entered the semi-finals defeating hosts River Rine Club by 16 runs in the first quarter-final match.
In the third quarter-final tomorrow, Bud Cricket Club will play Gauhati Town Club.
