Shillong, May 25: The BSF today apprehended a hardcore Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) cadre from the Dawki border in Jaintia Hills district.

In a statement issued here today, the BSF said that around 4.30pm this evening, BSF troops at Dawki carried out special operations and apprehended a hardcore HNLC cadre while he was infiltrating into India from Bangladesh.

The cadre has been identified as Poli Tangsan, 33, alias Suk from Nongthalang village of Dawki, Jaintia Hills.

During preliminary questioning, the cadre revealed that he joined the HNLC in 2007 on the instigation of Hepkoit, a senior cadre and self-styled area commander of Dawki.

He underwent arms training in Niharpunjee near Lungli river under Sreemongal police station in Moulvi Bazar district of Bangladesh.

He was involved in various extortion drives carried out by HNLC in and around Dawki in Jaintia Hills and Barsora in West Khasi Hills and collected money from coal exporters.

According to the BSF, the cadre has been staying at 12 Husnabadpunjee, under Sreemongal police station in Moulvi Bazar for the last few years.

The cadre has been handed over to police for necessary action.
