Imphal, July 19: Manipur Police Sports Club continued their winning streak, beating Posterior Hockey Academy Manipur by a 3-1 margin at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium today in the 1st Manipur Hockey League.
In the other match, South Eastern Youth Organisation inflicted a crushing defeat on Hockey Union.
With the win, the Police Club are still topping the league chart, bagging 15 points from five matches while Cosmopolitan and SAI-RC sh-are the second spot with seven points. However, better goal average has given Cosmopolitan an edge over SAI-RC.
Police Club’s victory was heard-earned as the Posterior boys, with their lightning speed, made things difficult for their rival. Their ball-snatching ability gave their opponents a tough time.
However, the more experienced side won the match.
Six minutes into the game, policeman M. Mirple helped his team take the lead from a stinging penalty corner shot while P. Adeba scored his team’s second goal.
In the second half, the policemen continued their attacking play and Mirple scored his second goal, his team’s third, from a penalty corner in the 43rd minute.
N. Abung of Posterior reduced the margin by scoring a goal in the 57th minute.
South Eastern Youth Organisation thrashed Hockey Union 5-2.
