Dibrugarh, Jan. 3: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd defeated Oil India Ltd 3-0 in the inaugural match of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Inter-Unit Volleyball Tournament which got under way at Piyoli Phukon stadium in Sivasagar today.

With internationals like Gurchand Singh and Mandeep Kumar who were part of the contingent that featured in the Asian Games, ONGC made an impressive start in the tournament this afternoon, defeating OIL 25-7, 25-9 and 25-14 in three straight sets in a best of five.

Four teams — ONGC, OIL, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd and Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) are taking part in the tournament.

Assam law and sericulture minister Pranab Gogoi inaugurated the meet.

Teams: ONGCL: Gurchand Singh, Mandeep Kumar, Subba Rao, Vinod Negi, Lalit, Ranjeet, Mukesh Kumar, Nikhlesh Kumar, Amnish Yadav, Rahul S.A., Ratish Nair.

OIL: A.G. Khan, Mukul Acharya, Bharat Singh, Daya Ram, Sunil Trivedi, S.D. Vyas, Rajesh Chotia, Sunil P.K, Mohan Lal Danga, Devjeet, N.K. Kalla, M.R. Joshi.
