Guwahati, Dec. 4: The National School of Drama (NSD) will hold the seventh edition of the Poorvottar Natya Samaroh in Meghalaya and Assam from December 6 to 14.
The theatre festival will be held at the District Library Auditorium in Tura in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya from December 6 to 10.
In Assam, the festival will be held at Pragjyoti Cultural Complex at Machkhowa in Guwahati from December 8 to 12 and at Sibsagar Natya Mandir in Sivasagar from December 10 to 14.
Altogether five drama troupes from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka and West Bengal will stage plays in Hindi, Kannada and Bengali.
“For the last five-six years, the Samaroh has been creating a platform for staging a rich and wide range of theatre from across the country,” said Parag Sarmah, production manager of the NSD.
The plays to be staged are Mohe Piya in Hindi from Maharashtra, Sidhi Dar Sidhi Urf in Hindi from Madhya Pradesh, Jamleela in Hindi from Rajasthan, Chitrapata in Kannada from Karnataka and Oedipus in Bengali from West Bengal.
In addition to annual theatre festivals such as Bharat Rang Mahotsav, Jashn-e-Bachpan and Bal Sangam in Delhi, NSD started organising Poorvottar Natya Samaroh in different parts of the Northeast as its regular feature since 2008.
Every year, the festival goes to a different city.
So far the Samaroh has been organised in Guwahati, Gangtok, Agartala, Tezpur, Jorhat and Dibrugarh.
