Assam governor Lt Gen. (retd) Ajai Singh has directed the Assam Agriculture University (AAU) authorities to deduct from AAU vice-chancellor G.C. Kaul’s salary the amount he draws as the retired deputy director-general of Indian Council of Agricultural Research. he directive was conveyed to the AAU by the secretary to the governor in a letter (GSA-69/2000/53 onMarch 30, 2004). President of Assam State Co-operative Union Jagadish Kalita said the performance of the district co-operative education development officers should improve. The first Northeast Poetry Award 2004, instituted by the North East India Poetry Council, Tripura, has been conferred on Khasi poet Kynpham Sing Nongkynrih. Nongkynrih was given the award by Tripura education minister Anil Sarkar at the inaugural session of the recent poetry confluence held in Agartala. The council selected Nongkynrih for the award for establishing his “own language in the position of due honour” and for his “life-long dedication to poetry”. Champhai-based daily Chhawkhlei has claimed that Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP Lalhmingliana has promised to reward Mizo National Front blocks according to the votes they garnered in the general elections from his MP local area development fund. Vice-marshal J.N. Burma has taken over as senior officer-in-charge of Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force in Shillong.
