Malaria grips Golaghat

Panic gripped Golaghat district of Assam after malaria assumed an epidemic form in certain areas of the district.

District in-charge of vector borne diseases K. Neog said 24 malaria patients were undergoing treatment at the Golghat Civil Hospital. Bokakhat and Tengani are among the worst affected areas.

Doctors irked

The Meghalaya Medical Services Association has threatened to launch a fresh agitation if the state government did not fulfil its demand to cancel a post-graduate medical seat allotted to Dr A. Reena Khonsam at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.

Plea on V-C

A general body meeting of Gauhati University Teachers? Association held on Wednesday urged the university authorities and AASU to solve all issues including the demand of the V-C?s resignation amicably. The GU Alumni Association made a similar appeal.

Hostel for deaf

Assam Association of the Deaf on Wednesday asked the state government to arrange hostel facilities for deaf students who come to Guwahati. Tapan Kumar Sarma, general secretary of the association, in a press statement demanded that hostel facilities be provided immediately after the Rongali Bihu festival.

Case filed

Police have registered a case against Assam NSUI president Bibhuti Bhusan Borthakur at Paltan Bazar police station in Guwahati on the basis of a complaint filed by the Bhangagarh branch of IndusInd Bank. The bank alleged that Borthakur vandalised the branch after the bank towed away his vehicle for being a defaulter regarding repayment of a car loan.

Conference

The fifth conference of Barimakha Anchalik Committee of All Assam Sarania Kachari Students? Union was held recently at Barimukh in Baksa district of Assam with a three-day programme.

Intruder shot

A BSF patrol team shot dead one Bangladeshi intruder when he was trying to cross the international border in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya on Monday. The incident took place at Ghujenpara border outpost of Mahendraganj.
