Three die in fire

Guwahati, April 3: Three persons, including two minors, died when their house was gutted in a fire that broke out near No. 2 Masjid in Katahbari area here last night.

The fire broke out around 9pm and Maiman Begum, 35, and her children Ruksana Begum,12, and Rosidul Alam, 8, were charred to death. Police said a few others also sustained minor injuries and eight houses were gutted completely. An investigation is under way.

Killed

Guwahati: Troops of the army's Red Horns division killed three suspected members of the United Kukigram Defence Army, a militant group, in East Karbi Anglong district on Sunday. One M-16 rifle, one 7.62mm rifle, two hand grenades and live ammunition were recovered.

Prohibited

Dhemaji: District magistrate of West Siang in Arunachal Pradesh, Gamli Padu, has prohibited movement of vehicles from 6am to 11am from April 15 to June 30 along the Aalo-Likabali road for smooth execution of double-laning work of the Likabali-Bam road. The order came in response to a joint application from the construction agencies.

Arrested

Guwahati: The Guwahati Frontier of the BSF arrested Sahajamal Shaikh, an Indian cattle smuggler, on Monday from the India-Bangladesh border in South Salmara district in lower Assam and seized 66 head of cattle.

Excursion

Dhemaji: The 20th battalion of the Indo-Tibet Border Police Public School, Aalo, in Arunachal Pradesh, conducted an education tour for students under the civic action programme to Delhi, Agra, Amritsar and Wagah border from March 15 to 30. Fifteen boys and girls were accompanied by four teachers in the excursion.

Launched

Guwahati: Idea Cellular launched its 4G services in Jorhat, Tezpur, Nagaon, Bongaigaon and Lumding and will expand 4G network to cover 13 towns, including Guwahati, by April.
