Silchar, Jan. 21: Fancied NF Railway were tottering on the brink of defeat with 85 for nine at stumps on the first day today against hosts Silchar in the Nuruddin Trophy senior inter-district cricket championship.
Silchar paceman Debabrata Roy and off-spinner Prakash Bhagat scalped five for 57 and four for seven respectively.
Earlier in the day, the home batsmen compiled a modest total of 152 runs in 57.1 overs. NF Railway’s Rajeev Rajbongshi also claimed five for 33.
Town club up
Guwahati Town Club entered the quarterfinals of the Guwahati Challenge inter-club cricket tournament, defeating Noonmati Cricket Academy by 98 runs at the Latasil ground today, reports a staff reporter.
Pankaj Kalita and Debashish Sinha scored 61 runs each in the town club’s 192 for five in 28 overs. Sanjib Hazarika captured four for seven to skittle out the Noonmati team for 94 in 21.3 overs. Tomorrow, Shantipur Athletic Club will meet Ankurjyoti Cricket Coaching Academy.
Dibrugarh, Jan. 21: Poulomi Ghatak, M.S. Mythili, B. Bhuvaneswari and Sushmita Ray helped Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to a podium finish, beating hosts Oil India Ltd in the women’s team event of the XXIIIth Petroleum Sports Promotion Board’s table tennis championship in Dulijan today.
