Aizawl: The BJP's Mizoram unit is planning to contest all the 40 constituencies in the Assembly elections scheduled for later this year, state party president J.V. Hluna told reporters here on Monday.
"As elections are likely to be held in the later part of this year, we would later decide on the candidate to contest the election," he said.
He did not comment on whether the party would field Chakma candidates in the Chakma areas.
NGOs in the state had earlier asked the parties not to field Chakma candidates.
"We will field candidates in all Assembly constituencies, including Chakma-inhabited areas. However, we are yet to decide on fielding Chakma candidates," Hluna said.
The academician-turned-politician said he had recently visited Tripura and Meghalaya where he met party leaders and Zo ethnic leaders.
Hluna hoped that the BJP would come to power in Meghalaya and Tripura.
He said the party might win 40 to 42 seats in Tripura.
Saying that the Congress and the Left Front have no more influence in Tripura, Hluna said the people are fed up of the Manik Sarkar-led government in the state.
"During 25 years of the Left Front government in Tripura, there has been no development in the state," he alleged.
Hluna added that a Mizoram House will be constructed in Tripura, if the BJP came to power.
Mizoram PCC president and chief minister Lal Thanhawla said there was no Modi wave in Mizoram.
He told reporters that said he did not see the BJP as a threat in the elections.
"I am aware of the BJP's efforts under the North East Democratic Alliance, but they will not be able to dent our chances. Modi is no threat for the Congress in Mizoram," the Congress leader and five-time chief minister said.
