Manipur Brothers out of semis

Imphal, April 22: Manipur Brothers Sporting Union defeated Tiddim Road Athletic Union by 5-3 goals, while Manipur Police Sports Club held North Eastern Re-Organisation and Cultural Association to a 1-1 draw in the fourth L. Sharat Chandra Invitation Football Tournament played at Nambol.

Despite the win, Manipur Brothers did not find a place in the semi-final as they could gather only three points, while both Manipur Police and North Eastern entered the semis with four points each.

Manipur Brothers Sporting Union took the lead with a solitary goal converted by Umakanta Singh in the first half. But in the second half, Tiddim Road quickly reduced the margin through K. Priyojit in the 48th minute.

Manipur Brothers Sporting Union stepped up the attack and Umakanta Singh delivered again to fetch two quick goals. Khaikhotilal got one while Umakanta Singh got the fourth goal for his team, which had a tally of five goals.

For Tiddim Road Athletic Union, H. Devan and H. Thoi gave the team’s second and third goals and both the teams later bowed out of the tournament.

The Manipur Police Sports Club and North Eastern Re-Organisation and Cultural Association match ended in a draw benefiting both.

North Eastern took the lead through H. Amarjit in the 36th minute, but Manipur Police Sports Club fetched the equalising goal in the 54th minute by Th. Roshan Singh.

With the completion of the qualifying round, the semi-final line up had been settled with host Tiddim Road Unique Gamy Players Union taking on Manipur Police Sports Club, while Youth Welfare Club will meet North Eastern Re-Organisation tomorrow.
