Aizawl, Feb. 13: A chase for a magic bottle ended in jail.
In a bizarre incident, Aizawl police busted a racket concerning the sale of a magic bottle and arrested seven persons in connection with the incident.
The seven persons were picked up on charges of kidnapping two men who had sold them an ordinary bottle instead of the “magic bottle”.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Aizawl superintendent of police launched a search for seven persons, who had allegedly kidnapped the duo from Tlabung in southern Mizoram.
Sources said one Rokamlova, resident of Chawnpui Veng here, was contacted by a Bangladeshi Chakma named Dona, who tried to sell him a magic bottle through his agents, Vanthlura and Indraswar Chakma.
After some persons verified that the bottle was indeed a magic one, which had the power to attract rice, both with and without husk, Rokamlova thought that the bottle could fetch a handsome price.
On February 10, Rokamlova and his partners, K. Biakthanga and Zothansangi, went to Tlabung to buy the magic bottle. Four persons accompanied them as bodyguards.
In addition to the Rs 29,000, which they had already paid, they shelled out another Rs 5 lakh for the bottle, which initially was priced at Rs 40 lakh.
However, after getting the bottle, they found it to be an ordinary one and not the one previously shown to them. Enraged at being duped, the three persons took Vanthlura and Indraswar hostage and brought them here.
Relatives of the agents reported the matter to Tlabung police. According to the Aizawl police, the three men had abducted the two agents out of anger and not for ransom.
