General Commanding Officer of 101 Area, Lt Gen. D.S. Ahuja pays homage to the bust of Kargil martyr and local lad Capt. Keishing Clifford Nongrum on the occasion of Kargil Diwas at Rhino Heritage Museum in Shillong on Wednesday.

General Commanding Officer of 101 Area, Lt Gen. D.S. Ahuja pays homage to the bust of Kargil martyr and local lad Capt. Keishing Clifford Nongrum on the occasion of Kargil Diwas at Rhino Heritage Museum in Shillong on Wednesday.

Capt. Nongrum died fighting Pakistani intruders in 1999 in an operation to recapture an important point in the Batalik sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

Capt. Nongrum's parents, Keishing Peter and Saily Nongrum, and other family members were also present on the occasion.

Capt. Nongrum is the first and only person in Meghalaya to have been awarded the second highest gallantry award, the Maha Vir Chakra for bravery, posthumously.

Born in March 1975, Capt. Nongrum did his schooling in Shillong.
