Guru Nanak, Fairyland post wins

Guwahati, May 16: Guru Nanak High School and Fairyland School posted convincing wins in their respective matches of the 1st Annapurna all Assam inter-school (under-16) invitational prizemoney cricket tournament at Latasil ground here today.

Guru Nanak Boys defeated Ankur Seminary School by five wickets while Fairyland trounced Paramount School by 87 runs. Put in to bat, Ankur Seminary were bundled out for 114 in 18.5 overs. In reply, Guru Nanak School reached 119 for five in 14.3 overs.

In the afternoon match, Fairyland batted first and were all out for 153 in 19.4 overs. The Paramount boys were skittled out for a paltry 66 in 12 overs.

Sumit Gogoi (16) and Sirish Hazarika (13) were the main scorers for Ankur Seminary. Rohit Sarma of Guru Nanak scalped three for 32 while Nabanit Singh and Raghab Sarma shared two wickets each.

For Guru Nanak, Sukhman Mohari scored a quickfire 41 not out off 34 balls to be adjudged Man of the Match. Naba Kishore of Ankur Seminary captured two wickets for 20 runs.

In the second encounter, Kishna Bastola (22) and Binod Sarma (18) were the main scorers for Fairyland while Deepjyoti Kalita of Paramount picked up three for 25 and Sudhir Gupta two for 10.

Fairyland?s Gokul Chetri notched up three wickets for 19 while Bishnu Upadhyaya and eventual Man of the Match Krishna Bastola shared two wickets each. Sudhir Gupta (9) was the only notable scorer.

The organisers, Riverine Cricket Coaching Centre, will select a team from the meet to be sent on an exposure tour of Delhi during the summer.
