GTC beat Santipur by 8 wickets

Guwahati, March 9: Gauhati Town Club registered a convincing eight-wicket victory over Santipur Athletic Club in their match of the Bhupen Chandra Mahanta Guwahati Sports Association A Division Cricket League at Nehru Stadium here today.

Put in to bat, the Santipur Athletic Club batsmen could only manage 86 runs before being bundled out in 29 overs. Mantu Rajak scored 25 runs off 30 deliveries, including three hits to the fence and one over the ropes, while Parvez Musharaf chipped in with 20 runs off 42 balls with two boundaries.

Ratul Dey was the only other notable contributor with 12 runs off 15 deliveries.

Suraj Ray returned with figures of five for 26 runs in his allotted seven overs while Deep Borah and Nayan Deka scalped one wicket each.

In reply, Gauhati Town Club boys eased past the target losing two wickets in 16 overs. Nitin Das scored 24 runs off 26 deliveries which included four boundaries while Neeraj Sharma chipped in with 22 runs off 36 balls with four hits to the fence.

Simanta Neogi remained unbeaten on 14 runs off 17 deliveries including a boundary and a six. Abdul Saher Islam and Ratul Dey picked up one wicket each for their side.

Under-19 cricket: A trial-cum-selection camp will be held from tomorrow at Nehru Stadium to select the under-19 district cricket team of Guwahati Sports Association for the JK Barooah under-19 inter-district cricket championship.

Mountaineering: A fortnight's adventure camp of Assam Mountaineering & Adventure Sports Institute organised by the directorate of sports & youth welfare, Assam, concluded in Morigaon on Sunday.
