Agartala, Sept. 3: The dispute over the mode of address to Tripura governor’s wife Manju Sahay has finally been settled by Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahay himself.
In a letter to INPT leader Shyamacharan Tripura, the governor appreciated his concern over the address to his wife as “Lady Governor”.
“This is in vogue in several states of the country but personally I feel it is wrong and you have rightly expressed your concern over the issue,” the governor said. He has instructed the government to change the mode of address to his wife in any official programme from “Lady Governor” to “First Lady”, he added.
Pacified by the governor’s letter, the veteran INPT leader expressed his happiness over the stand taken by the governor. “I am happy that the governor has appreciated the position I have taken and in any case ‘First Lady’ is more correct than ‘Lady Governor’ as a mode of address to the governor’s wife,” Tripura said.
The debate began when the chief minister, in reply to a query raised by leader of the Opposition Ratanlal Nath, addressed Manju Sahay as “Lady Governor”. Tripura had protested over the mode of address.
Having read this in media, Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahay himself took the initiative to correct the error and instructed the administration to address his wife as ‘First Lady’ and sent a separate letter to Tripura.
