Imphal: Four Corners United, Mumbai, in association with Eastern Sporting Union, Manipur, has donated football training equipment to 40 grassroots-level clubs in Manipur.
At a function on the Eastern Sporting Union premises here, the equipment were distributed to 36 grassroots-level clubs in the valley districts and four clubs from the hill districts.
Youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip lauded the initiative of Four Corners United, Mumbai.
Haokip said there was no dearth of talent in Manipur and the sportspersons of the state have proven that they can excel in the international arena. He said he would table a sports budget in the next budget session so that incentives to players was increased.
Four Corners United promoter Tej Sharma, footballer Oinam Bembem Devi, boxer L. Sarita Devi and Eastern Sporting Union president Biren Singh were present on the occasion.
Sharma said they were taking such an endeavour to help promote grassroots football.
