Guwahati, June 21: Dynamo Club, Guwahati, today registered a 5-3 win via tie-breaker over Green Valley Sports Club, Guwahati, in their season opener to march into the semifinals of the Guwahati Sports Association’s 3rd Nripendra Narayan Bhattacharya invitation knockout football tournament, under way at Nehru Stadium here.
The Nigerian recruit- studded Dynamo outfit came back from behind to equalise with an injury time goal to take the match to tiebreakers. They outsmarted the Green Valley boys to book the last-four stage berth.
Green Valley had almost stolen the match with a fourth minute goal off the foot of medio Abhijit Nandi who converted a free kick with a power-packed shot. However, the Dynamo team restored parity in the dying minutes of the game when striker Ronald Singh made no mistake in deflecting home a pass from substitute B. Vanlal Nghaka.
Both outfits created several openings during the course of the match, but could not capitalise on any of the opportunities due to the strategic defence at either end.
In the penalty shootout, Nigerian Eric Obiora Aningo, Ronal Singh, R. Roman and B. Vanlal Nghaka scored for Dynamo while Rojit Singh’s shot was fisted away by the Green Valley goalie.
For Green Valley, Anupam Chetia and Anup Chetry converted their shots while Abdul Khan and Abhijit Nandi’s kicks missed the net.
