Nagaon, July 15: Dispur’s formal approval of the executive body of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council this evening brought to an end to the chaos in the council.
The 13-member body of the council will take charge tomorrow after the distribution of portfolios by chief executive member Debojeet Thaosen.
A high-level source in Dispur today said some “unavoidable reasons” delayed the process though the hills area development department received the list on June 20.
“Now the matter has been streamlined and the functioning of the council will speed up. The entire process will be completed by tomorrow,” the source said.
The 11th Dima Hasao Autonomous Council polls were held on May 20. The results for all the 28 council seats were announced on May 24. On June 3, Kharthong constituency member Ngamrothang Hamr took charge as the chairman of the council and in the June 13 council session, Debojeet Thaosen took charge as chief executive member.
The list of the 13-member executive body was forwarded to Dispur on June 20.
A Congress source today said The Telegraph that the unwanted delay had disrupted the functioning of the council.
“After the beginning of the third session on July 12, we got 59 questions from two elected members — Mihir Gorlosa and A. Langthang — on the functioning of various council departments. However, we do not have executive members of the departments to answer these questions. The sessions will resume only after the full-fledged council takes charge,” the source said.
According to the source, the proposed body’s five senior members (who were executive members in the 10th autonomous council) will retain their old portfolios.
Samuel Changsan, Ranu Langthasa, Prakanta Warissa, Paudamming Hriame will continue as in-charge of irrigation, PHE, veterinary and animal husbandry, soil conservation and flood control department.
Kulendra Daulogupu will be in-charge of the education department.
Debojeet Thaosen also announced the names of two nominated members in Haflong today.
“Tushar Kanti Dey and Tulsi Prasad Upadhaya are our nominated council members and the government has approved our proposal to include the two. We dream of making Dima Hasao the best district in the state and for this, each member of our executive body must work with zeal,” Thaosen told reporters in Haflong today.
