Imphal, Dec. 14: Cosmopolitan Youth Club surprised Manipur Police Sports Club with a 5-4 win in the 2nd Manipur Hockey League at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium here today.
In the other matches, Posterior Hockey Academy Manipur continued with their good show with 6-2 goal victory against Khongman Students’ Club while SAI RC went down to South Eastern Youth Organisation by 1-4 goals today.
Cosmopolitan caught Manipur Police off guard in the morning match, which was a neck-and-neck game. Manipur Police drew first blood with P. Adeva bringing up the first goal in the 3rd minute of play. However, Cosmopolitan replied with a vengeance as Th. Hemjit Singh found the equaliser in the 5th minute.
Their second goal came soon after when W. Manjit Singh scored from a field goal. In the 24th minute, Th. Hemjit Singh scored from a penalty corner conversion.
Manipur Police replied with a goal in the 28th minute when Th. Birjit Singh found the Cosmo net to make it 2-3 before half time.
In the second half, Police went on the offensive and found the equaliser through S. Tarunkumar Singh. P. Adeva came up with another goal in the 50th minute from a penalty corner to take the lead.
However, Cosmopolitan men stunned the cops with their well-coordinated moves to pump in two more goals in quick succession.
M. Chingkheinganba scored from a field goal in the 56th minute and M. Mirple sealed the fate of Manipur Police with another field goal a minute later.
South Eastern Youth Organisation, after two disastrous outings, finally came back into the reckoning as they humbled SAI RC by4-1 goals to salvage some of their lost pride.
Posterior prevailed in the league undefeated, scoring over Khongman Students’ Club by 6-2 goals today. Kh. Ravikanta scored two goals in the first five minute while O. Boniyam scored in the 20th and the 67th minute and M. Premchand Singh pumped in two in the 40th and 65th minutes for the Posterior victory.
