District police on Sunday arrested one Dilwar Hussain Laskar for posing as a correspondent of Time8, a Guwahati-based news portal in Hailakandi town. His car has been seized.
He was brought to Hailakandi Sadar police station.
Police sources informed the matter to the district information and public relations officer Sabir Nishat.
Nishat filed an FIR stating that Laskar was not with Time8 and that he was a fake journalist.
On inquiry, it was found that correspondent of Time8, Hailakandi, Bidhan Sen had approached Laskar who works as a DTP operator, to make a printout of the new identity card which he had received from his Guwahati-based office on his WhatsApp number on March 29.
Laskar made a ditto identity card and posed himself as a correspondent of Time8, official sources said.
The police registered a case under Sections 409 and 420 of the IPC against Laskar. He is being interrogated, the police said.
