Dimapur: The Nagaland PCC has decided to support candidates of "secular" parties in seats where the Congress has not fielded its candidates. Congress workers have been asked to carry out the decision in letter and spirit.

"The PCC has to take a decision to save the people of Nagaland from sinking in Hindutva quicksand," a PCC communiqué said. It added that for over two-and-a-half years, the PCC has been making people aware of the "dangers of Hindutva".

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has decided to share seats with the BJP by giving them 20 seats.

The communiqué alleged that the NDPP is aiming for only money and power.

According to the PCC, people are fully aware of how religious minorities are persecuted and made to suffer under BJP rule.

The communiqué said people in Nagaland are living in a "depleted state" because of the NDPP leadership. It says the electorate should realise who is responsible for bringing Hindutva in the state and added that the demands of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) should not go in vain.

"Therefore, the Congress has taken the decision to support secular-party candidates wherever it is not contesting. The decision is aimed to stop the BJP and its alliance partners from compromising the rights of our people and our way of life. Towards this objective, the Congress will welcome secular-minded parties and leaders for a broad consensus to provide a secular and stable government and stop the tide of Hindutva forces in Nagaland," the communiqué said.
