Silchar, March 15: Mohammedan Athletics Club of Calcutta thrashed Assam State Reserve Force (second battalion) 5-1 to romp into the finals of the 27th Capt. N.M. Gupta football tournament here today.

Though the Assam team shot into the lead in the sixth minute through Gokul Brahma, the national second division team from Calcutta took over from there with Nigerian star John Alberto scoring a hattrick. The winners led 2-1 at the break.

Another Nigerian in the visiting side, Benjamin, scored the other two goals.

Veterans’ meet

Guwahati, March 15: Nalbari today defeated Media XI by four wickets in the inter-district veterans’ cricket championship at Latasil, says a staff reporter.
