Two-day hearing on act

The committee to review the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, will conduct a public hearing at the circuit house from 11.30 am to 4 pm on Wednesday and from 9.30 am to 4 pm on Thursday to take the views of a cross-section of people for the amendment of the act.

In order to take part in the hearing, individuals or organisations should register their names with the deputy registrar, Assam Human Rights Commission, in Sapcota.

Award

The dolloi of Illaka Nongjingi in Meghalaya?s Jaintia Hills district, Lyngong Snieh, was conferred the Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture samman for the year 2005 during the 10th foundation day celebration of the institute.

Bodo fest

The two-day Bathou festival of the Bodo community was inaugurated at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra on Sunday. Kherai dance and religious rituals were the highlights of the first day of the festival. On Monday, discussions on Bodo folk culture will be held.

New journal

The Vision, a lab journal of the National Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication, Guwahati, was released by Asam Sahitya Sabha president Kanak Sen Deka at the Guwahati Press Club on Sunday. In his address, Deka appreciated the attempt of the students of the institute to bring out the journal.

Function

A musical programme will be held to mark the annual function of Pub-Sarania-based classical music school, Rasik Ranjani, at the District Library auditorium on Monday. The students of the school will present the musical programme.

Programme

A vendor development programme-cum-industrial exhibition will be organised by the Small Industries Services Institute, Guwahati, at Men?s Club, CRPF headquarters at Khanapara on February 24 to provide sustainable marketing avenues for the small-scale industries.

Soiree

Rangoli School of Art and Crafts organised a musical evening at Lalganesh Vivekananda Vidyapith recently on the occasion of its annual function. Renowned Bengali elocutionist and secretary of Agnibina of Calcutta, Rabin Mukhapadhaya, inaugurated the Rangoli musical cell on the occasion to impart training on classical songs, Rabindrasangeet and bhajans.

Maternity

A maternity home with 24-hour ambulance service promoted by Good Friend Hospital and Research Centre Pvt. Ltd was inaugurated on Sunday at Ulubari.
