Guwahati, Dec. 4: With the season turning out to be quite eventful, paddler Birdie Boro, riding high on confidence, is all set to represent the state at the senior level.
The paddler clinched the men’s singles title at the fourth R.G. Baruah All Assam Major Ranking Table Tennis Championship recently.
Speaking to The Telegraph, the promising paddler from the state said: “This season is turning out to be really good for me. I went on to win the cadet boys’ title of the recently held Reliance India Junior and Cadet Open at Mumbai. I did participate in the championship earlier but never went on to win. I am currently ranked fifth in the junior and youth national rankings and I believe this is just the start.”
Boro went on to win the singles, team and doubles title of the Reliance India Junior and Cadet Open held from October16-20 at the National Sports Club of India in Mumbai. The paddler, currently based in Ajmer under the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), revealed his plans to represent the state at the senior level. “I will be playing for PSPB at the junior level, although it’s not very easy to get into their senior team. I want to play for Assam at the senior level and I am really looking forward to it,” Boro said.
Regarding the PSPB experience, Boro said, “It’s a completely different environment where our main focus is to improve our game. All we do is play and study with encouragement from the authorities.
“I was earlier studying in Happy Child School before shifting to Don Bosco for better training facilities. My family and the Assam Table Tennis Association have played a big role in my journey so far,” added Boro.
