Kokrajhar, Feb. 17: D.N. Himatsingha Bengali High School emerged champions in the Kokrajhar district inter-school cricket tournament defeating BPCM Babyland English School by nine runs in the final.
In the final played today at Kokrajhar Dwimalu field, Babyland won the toss and put Himatsingha to bat.
The Himatsingha boys could manage only 139 runs losing six wickets in 25 overs.
Rupan Aich was the topscorer for the Bengali school with 37 runs. Sonai Dey was the other notable scorer with 35 runs off just 28 balls.
For Babyland, Arindam Das took three wickets for 11 runs in five overs.
Chasing a target of 140 runs, the Babyland school batsmen could reach only 130 runs in 25 overs losing nine wickets.Bikramjit Sarker was the topscorer with 32 runs. For D.N. Himatsingha school, Sonai Dey took three wickets giving away 21 runs.
Bikramjit Sarkar of Babyland school was adjudged the Man of the Tournament. Rupan Aich was named the Best Batman, while Santosh Choudhury the Best Bowler.
Sangrila English School won the fairplay trophy.
BTC member Dhaneswar Goyary and chairman of Kokrajhar Municipality Board Phani Brahma attended the final as guests and gave away the prizes.
