
Imphal: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) launched a level-1 course for Northeast umpires here on Monday.
Altogether 29 umpires from six northeastern states are undergoing training at Classic Grande.
The four-day course is being conducted by Bhoopinder Singh Batti, retired BCCI-qualified international umpire and scorer, and Vilas Bandiwdekar, retired BCCI qualified umpire and a BCCI umpires educator level 3.
The umpires are Karma Namgyal Bhutia, Sumit Sherstha, Gopal Prasad, Lhakmit Lepcha Topden and Wangchuk Lchungpa from Sikkim, Pringsang Sangma, Dylan N. Arengh, James R. Lyngdoh, Sanjoy Mondal and Donkolang L. Reckon from Meghalaya, Kamsha Yangfo, Suheil Husian, Tecni Neri and Techi Tagar from Arunachal Pradesh, Angto V. Yeptho, Sashi Meren, Vhunsenlo Keppen, Ato Chang and Rajesh Mondol from Nagaland, Syed Azad, Yambem Folendro, Elangbam Rashikumar, Ngariyanbam Milan and Takhelmayum Indrakumar Singh from Manipur, and Chawngroliana, Kros Lalnunpuia, Abraham Lalmuanpuia, Zosangkima and Lalremruata from Mizoram.
On the first day, the course dwelt on how to chalk out the pitch and the nature of a scorer's work.
Preamble of Law number 1 to 14 was discussed in length and a self-evaluation test was held in the evening to asses the knowledge of the umpires.
