Guwahati, May 4: Doordarshan today assured a team of Guwahati-based Producers’ Council, an association of private producers of Doordarshan, to announce the commissioned programmes for the Northeast by June.
The assurance was made by Aruna Sharma, director-general, Doordarshan, during a meeting with Ambika Soni, Union minister for information and broadcasting, in Delhi this afternoon. Three MPs from Assam — Pawan Singh Ghatowar, Birendra Prasad Baishya and Kumar Deepak Das — were present, besides a council delegation.
According to the executive president of the council, Akshaya Rajkhowa, the MPs, who had accompanied the council team to meet Soni, agreed that the matter should be taken up seriously and adequate funds released for 2010-11.
Yesterday, the director-general had given the assurance when the council approached her regarding the release of funds for the Northeast-commissioned programmes for Doordarshan, Rajkhowa added.
