Amlan claims title

Amlan Mahanta clinched the title in the 22nd P.C. Borooah First Sunday Chess Tournament held on the P.C. Borooah Chess Academy premises here yesterday.

Guwahati, April 6: Amlan Mahanta clinched the title in the 22nd P.C. Borooah First Sunday Chess Tournament held on the P.C. Borooah Chess Academy premises here yesterday.

Amlan scored six points from seven rounds to claim the title. Nitish Das and Prachurjya Gayan also scored six points each but were declared second and third respectively on the basis of tie-break scores. Bhavishnu Pranti Bordoloi got the fourth position scoring 5.5 points. Homen Rabha and Uddipta Kakati also scored 5.5 points each and they were placed fifth and sixth respectively on the basis of tie-break scores.

Khanindra Barman, Aarohan Bharadwaj, Kunal Kalita and Uddinabh Mahanta scored five points each to be placed seventh to 10th positions respectively.

In the under-13 category, Debanga Kalita scored 4.5 points for the first position. Neeraj Pratap Hazarika also scored 4.5 points to be placed second, while Kaustav Kalita scored four points to be third.

In the under-11 category, Rishita Sinha scored 4.5 points to be placed first followed by Rishabh Singh, also with 4.5 points, and Priyangshu Bhowmick with four points. Abhinav Dubey got the first position in the under-9 category with four points, while Anmol Bharadwaj and Aslesha Talukdar were second and third with four points each.

In the under-7 category, Biwaswan Choudhury got first position with two points. Altogether 61 players participated in the tournament.
