Guwahati: Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Wednesday demanded a CBI inquiry into the Assam Public Service Commission's cash-for-jobs scam.
The peasant leader also demanded the resignation of Lok Sabha MP from Tezpur Ram Prasad Sharma on moral grounds as his daughter Pallavi, an Assam Police Service officer, is among the 19 officers arrested on Wednesday.
Akhil raised the demand after Dibrugarh police arrested 19 more gazetted officers here.
He also asked the state government to cancel all appointments of candidates who were selected by the APSC between 2013 and 2015.
"The probe should be unbiased and all persons involved in the scam should be punished. In the name of investigation, attempts to shield some persons will not be tolerated any more."
A statement issued by the KMSS office also demanded Sharma's arrest for bribing the APSC officials for his daughter's job.
Sharma said the arrest of Pallavi was a conspiracy against him.
"I will be undergoing a kidney transplant next month in Calcutta. My daughter is one of the donors. I have informed chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal about it. But now I will not request the state government for her release," Sharma told the media on Wednesday evening.
The MP added that in the APSC scam some specific persons were being targeted by the government.
Reacting to the allegations, Akhil said: "Why are those APSC officers - appointed with the backing of minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, AASU leader Samujjal Bhattacharjya, BJP MLA Gurujyoti Das, BJP leaders Chikimiki Talukdar and Sumitra Patir - still not arrested? We seek an answer about the allegations from chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and investigating officers of the case."
When contacted by The Telegraph, Bhattacharjya said: "The allegation is baseless and I do not think it necessary to comment on it."
