Agartala, June 22: A student of Agartala’s Shishu Vihar Higher Secondary School has topped the merit list of this year’s higher secondary examination.
Meenakshi Das earned the first position in the examination, the results of which were declared today, with an aggregate of 906 marks. Another student of Shishu Vihar finished among the “top 10”.
Secretary of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), Ramendra Barman, said 67.2 per cent of the candidates cleared the examination, marginally higher than last year’s success rate of 65.87 per cent.
Eight schools, including Shishu Vihar, had a cent per cent pass record, while nine did not have a single successful candidate.
Of the 13,951 students who sat for the examination, 481 passed in the first division and 2,051 in the second division.
Barman said the results were good in spite of disruption of the academic schedule by militancy.
Trailing Meenakshi on the merit list are Udip Roy of Bokys Bodhjung School, Debabrata Sikdar of R.K.I. Institution (Kailasahar), Paramita Mullik of Baikhora School (Belonia), Ramkrishna Pal of Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan (Agartala), Dipankar Debnath of Ramesh School (Udaipur), Prasenjit Biswas of Jolaibari School (Belonia), Amit Kumar Deb of Shishu Vihar, Nandana Acharjee of Bani Vidyapith Girls School (Agartala) and Arnak Pal of Udaipur English-Medium School.
CPM worker’s body recovered
Agartala, June 22: The body of an abducted CPM activist was today recovered from a jungle in Dhalai district of Tripura.
Nripendra Reang, hailing from Kathalbari village under Ambassa police station, had been abducted by the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) on Friday morning. Police suspect that he was hacked to death the same day.
Reang’s decomposed body was found in a forest near Hironjaypara, about two km from his house. The motive behind the killing is not known.
Chief minister Manik Sarkar held a high-level meeting yesterday to devise a strategy to deal with stepped up militant activities in the state.
TSR jawan killed
A Tripura State Rifles recruit was yesterday seriously injured in a clash with villagers in the Killamura area of Belonia subdivision. He succumbed to his injuries later at the G.B. Hospital here.
Police sources said a platoon of TSR jawans of the 8th battalion working as an escort party for ONGC officials and workers were encamped in College tilla area of Belonia .
On Friday, three jawans Rajesh Debbarma, Sikendra Debbarma and Chittaranjan Debbarma had gone to Killamura and got drunk.
On way back they got embroiled in a quarrel with local villagers who beat them up. While Chittaranjan and Sikendra managed to escape, Rajesh, who had borne the brunt of the beating, fell unconscious. Later, rescued by colleagues, he was taken to G.B. Hospital where he died.
