Assam state coordinator for Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), Zamser Ali, who recently joined the Congress, was arrested by Mangaldoi police on Thursday for an allegedly “defamatory Facebook post”.

Ali, 48, a resident of Kawatika village under Bijni police station in Chirang district, was booked under Sections 120B, 294A, 153A, 500 and 506 of the IPC and Section 67 of the IT Act.

The CJP has condemned the arrest of activist Ali for raising his voice against the “blatantly communal social media posts” by Rupa Rani Bhuyan, a college teacher.
