143 file papers for BTC polls

Altogether 143 candidates in 40 constituencies filed nominations today for the BTC election on April 8.

Kokrajhar, March 24: Altogether 143 candidates in 40 constituencies filed nominations today for the BTC election on April 8.

Around 38 candidates filed their nomination for 12 constituencies under Kokrajhar district, 42 candidates from 10 constituencies under Udalguri district, 40 candidates for 11 constituencies under Baksa district and in Chirang district, 23 candidates filed their nomination from seven constituencies.

Among the prominent candidates who filed nominations are BPF president and chief of BTC Hagrama Mohilary from Debargaon constituency, BTC executive member for education Derhasat Basumatary from Salakati, sitting BTC member Dhaneswar Goyary from Bhaukungri, Rajib Kumar Brahma (BPF) from Banargaon and Baktar Ali Ahmed (BPF) from Fakiragram in Kokrajhar.

Five BJP candidates - Monoj Kumar Brahma (Mono Kumar) from Banargaon, Malati Rani Narzary from Salakati, Dilip Kumar Barman from Fakiragram, Samarandra Brahma (Amao Jwhwlao) from Debargaon, Raj Kumar Brahma from Baukhungri also filed their nominations in Kokrajhar.

In Gossaigaon, BTC executive member Sobharam Basumatary of the BPF from Kachugaon, sitting BTC member Rahendra Brahma of the BPF from Guma, former Absu vice-president Somnath Narzary from Saraibil, Crisistom Tudu of the Congress from Srirampur filed their nominations.

Among others who submitted their nominations include Gorjan Mushahary of the PCDR from Baukhungri constituency, Jakhir Hussain of the AGP from Fakiragram and Independent candidate Mahendra Roy, also from Fakiragram.

Three candidates - Sahen Chandra Brahma of the BPF, Moon Moon Brahma (Independent) and Biswa Kumar Brahma (Independent) filed their nominations from Parbatjhora constituency.

In Chirang district, 23 candidates filed their nominations, including former Absu president and PCDR chief co-ordinator Rwngwra Narzary from Kajalgaon, Dilip Kumar Sarania of the Sanmilito Janagostiyo Aikhya Manch from Kajalgaon and sitting BTC member Kalilur Rehman of the Congress from Turibari constituency.

In Udalguri district, those who filed their nominations included BTC executive members of the BPF - Mitaram Basumatary from Dhansiri, Lwmsrao Daimary from Kairabari and Deputy Speaker Bonjar Daimary from Kalingduar.

In Baksa, BTC members Moon Singh Brahma from Dhira and Ansumwi Kunggur Boro from Mushalpur (both BPF) and Chandi Basumatary of the Congress from Mushalpur filed their nominations.

Nomination papers would be received till 3pm tomorrow and scrutiny of the nomination papers will be done on March 26. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 28 and the same day the final list of contestants will be published. Repolling, if any, will be held on April 10 and counting of votes will take place on April 11.
