Guess who's the new Kwid on the mega trade block.

The SUV-inspired hatchback from the stable of French automobile giant Renault notched a jaw-dropping 600 bookings at Canvas India-2015, the annual trade fair of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), which concluded at Gopal Maidan in Bistupur on Tuesday.

The 11-day fair, organised with logistics support from Bangalore-based event management firm The Concern India Shows Private Limited, had kicked off on October 3. It ended on an overwhelming note, said organisers, with the total footfall exceeding 2.5 lakh and business running into several crores.

"This was the 24th mega trade fair in 13 years in Jamshedpur. The response has been the best so far. The footfall was an indicator of success," said Jyoti Kumar, managing director of the event management firm.

Renault Kwid was the star at the Bistupur fair

According to Kumar, the sectors that did brisk business were automobile, electronics, furniture and luxury consumer goods. "The newly launched Renault Kwid attracted 600 bookings at the fair," Kumar said.

President of SCCI Suresh Sonthalia said apart from physical sales, stalls of various sectors witnessed countless queries. "Owing to pitrpaksha, which is considered inauspicious and which ended on October 12, many people abstained from buying. But, they booked their products, which shall be delivered to their doorsteps after the fair," he said.

Sonthalia pointed out that the weather was conducive too. "Unlike previous years, there was no rain ever since the fair kicked off. That resulted in maximum footfall," he added.

The organisers said the real estate sector too did good business. "More than 250 flats and duplexes were booked right away. The fair cashed in on the festive fervour," said one of them.
