Ranchi, June 15: A senior official of Ranchi University (RU) is in a quandary. He doesn’t know whether to rejoice or lament his son’s success in cracking the Bengal joint entrance examination.
His ward is eligible for admission to a reputed engineering college in Bengal. But money matters. Arranging the tuition fee (around Rs 50,000) is an uphill task for him as his salary is pending since past four months.
Ward of a senior teacher of Ranchi College was a bit lucky to get admission to a leading institution of the country. The teacher has somehow managed the admission fee of Rs 28,000.
Salary of over 10,000 employees in three universities of the state — RU, Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) and Sidho-Kanho-Murmu University (SKMU) — is pending since February. Succumbing to immense pressure of employees, only the RU cleared the salary for the month of March from internal resources.
State higher education director Bijay Bahadur Singh said such problems are usual at the beginning of the new financial year. “It takes time to get allotment under different heads. Lots of procedures ought to be followed before the allotment on salary head could be released to the universities,” said Singh.
Singh said he has recommended the state government to release funds under salary head from P/L (public ledger) account for the employees of the three universities for six months starting from March, 2007.
Believe it or not, universities are also responsible for the agony of the teachers. SKMU vice-chancellor Phatik Chandra Hembrom said: “We were late in giving some reports to state human resource department. The department is now delaying the process.”
